Golden Milk is wonderfully healing for the body, aiding in reducing inflammation systemically, boosts the immune system and aids in digestion and that is but a few of the benefits. Sometimes I would like to have some hot chocolate and have it do the same things.
Turmeric’s component curcumin is a wonderful anti-inflammatory and its works throughout the body benefiting joints, muscles, intestines (also being a great aid against and to aid in the healing of inflammatory bowel disease) and your skin. It helps with fighting cancer, particularly breast, intestinal, stomach and skin cancers. Turmeric also aids in pain management and well as helping in detoxification of the liver and preventing carcinogenic damage to the body.
These benefits are wonderful for anyone, but primarily for us ladies that have PMS! Premenstrual Syndrome and Premenstrual dysphoric disorder can make one or two weeks before or after menstruation difficult. I for one feel rather bloated and want to eat some chocolate. Menstruation is natural. It is a time for the body to cleanse, PMS is not. It occurs when our hormones out of balance, our adrenal glands are fatigued, we are under great stress, blood sugar imbalances, suffer from malnutrition or have liver dysfunction.
This drink, aids in cleansing the body, reducing inflammation and aids in hormonal balance. If you happen to have intense cravings for chocolate this will help satisfy that too. It literally tastes like a chocolate Terry’s orange.

Cinnamon is great to add for the extra benefits of blood sugar balance. Sweet drinks, like hot chocolate, are wonderful to have, however, spiking your blood sugar can level you feeling craving more sweets later on, or leave you with feelings of anxiety. I’d love to have a hot chocolate before bed, but too much sugar to close to bedtime will leave me with horrible anxiety and I will not be able to get to sleep. A hint of cinnamon and I’m good.
Orange peel (the orange zest for this drink – make sure that it is organic as you don’t want to add pesticides into your hot chocolate) is a source of magnesium (aids in reducing bloating during PMS), folate as well as other B vitamins and many flavonoids and antioxidants. These two secondary compounds are great at boosting the immune system and reducing free radical damage.
